Treatment of sacroiliac joint: A review of procedures

Tabar, J Chiropractic Technique Nov 1997; 9(4):185-92

This article discusses the treatment of sacroiliac joint dysfunction by selected chiropractic techniques, physical therapy procedures and medical treatment. The information presented here was gathered through a review of literature concerning the anatomy, biomechanics and treatment of the sacroiliac dysfunction. Controversy on the mechanism of dysfunction of the joint is evident, and each system or author provides an explanation based on his own or adopted conceptual model. For chiropractic to be more accepted widely and to continue to grow, more controlled clinical trials are needed, not only to substantiate each technique but also to have solid evidence for comparison of various techniques with each other.
