Cranial Concepts in Chiropractic – Part II

Ford CW Dig Chiro Econ Jan/Feb 1987;29(4): 18-20

Craniosacral therapy stems directly from the anatomy and physiology of the craniosacral system. The goal is to facilitate compliance of the craniosacral system. Failing to comply with hydraulic fluctuation causes the build-up of pressure within the craniosacral system. This backpressure is reflected onto the brain and spinal cord, leading to dysfunction potentially expressed elsewhere in the body. Application of craniosacral therapy first involves palpation of craniosacral rhythm. Most easily monitored at the head, the expansion and contraction of the craniosacral system produces a characteristic widening and narrowing of the skull.
