Sphenobasilar Torsion and its Significance in TMJ Disorders

Sarkin JM Dig Chiro Econ Jan/Feb 1986;28(4): 22

Although cranial primary respiratory dysfunction can distort the skull in may ways, torsion of the sphenobasilar junction is one of the most important in terms of its effects on the temporomandibular articulation. This discussion will review the biomechanics of this lesion, and visual and palpatory examination findings. Correction of sphenobasilar torsion can lead to more functional glenoid fossa mandibular occlusal contacts. Furthermore this cranial correction will improve cranio-sacral primary respiratory function also.
