The Effects of a Pelvic Blocking Procedure Upon Muscle Strength: A Pilot Study

Unger J Conference Proceedings of the Chiropractic Centennial 1995 Jul: 376-7

Muscle strength can be reflective of neurological function. In chiropractic, it is hypothesized that structural distortion may lead to neurological compromise. In many of the major techniques of chiropractic, the pelvic position is thought to be a paramount consideration in the evaluation and correction of structural distortion. This study investigated possible neurological change by muscle strength measurements in relationship to a pelvic de-torsion procedure. Results of the study suggest a general increase in muscle strength by the administration of the Category II pelvic blocking procedure which among other things de-torsions the pelvis. Further investigations, however are recommended, such as, sham treatments, instrument reliability studies, and intra and inter-examiner reliability studies using the Microfet hand-held dynamometer.
