Precision Block Placement Indicator

Unger JF Am Chiro 1991 Mar; 13: 8-11

The Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) of chiropractic has as one of its major tenants the category system of pelvic analysis and correction. Differential diagnosis is made by a variety of indicators, and treatment is based on the results of those tests and measures. The Category III predominate indicators include the lack of pelvic anterior-posterior sway, the lack of lateral pelvic sway, and the presence of spinal incline. Although the magnitude of spinal incline is never specifically defined, most of the literature refers to the antalgic patient with significant low back pain and/or sciatica. The casual student of SOT may be inclined to deduce that the presence of antalgia and low back pain is the primary indicator of the Category III dysfunction. In conclusion, the logical evaluation of the Category III block placement procedures, suggests that the kinesiological test of the hamstrings and the posterior-cervical muscles may be used as an indicator of the precise angulation for the blocks in Category III treatment.
