Major Bertrand DeJarnette, DC, was a renowned inventor, engineer, osteopath, and chiropractor throughout his long and productive career. When working as an engineer, he sustained critical injuries that led him ultimately to manipulative treatment. His experiences as a patient led him to osteopathic school. The fortunes of his inventions fueled his dedication to research in his attempts to understand why people suffer. This research led him to chiropractic. This paper provides a brief synopsis of some of the highlights in the career of this remarkable man. He was noted throughout many parts of the world for his discoveries as well as his 138 books and hundreds of periodicals, Dr. DeJarnette is a tribute to human commitment and to the chiropractic profession. Although a major chiropractic technique evolved from his studies, his goal in life was to investigate scientifically why all of chiropractic works.
